Sixth meeting with artisan cheese
The Baix la Mar neighbourhood in Dénia will host the sixth consecutive edition of the Artisan Cheese Fair and Market of the Valencian Community on Sunday, 18 October. The Els Magazinos venue is organising the gathering together with Cerveza Turia, as part of the Cuina de Territori initiative.
Four cheesemakers from Alicante
The event will bring together four producers from the province. La Quesería San Antonio, founded in 1968 by María Devesa Llorens, has been run since 1997 by the third generation, made up of Javier Ronda Sanchís and Toñi Ronda Savall. Los Molinos has been operating since 2020 under the drive of Juan Luis Gimeno and María Dolores Navarro, while El de Sereix, set up in 2019 by Paco Ayela, María Rodríguez and Antonio Rodríguez, won a Silver Medal for its 'Queso Joven' and a Bronze Medal for 'Brusco' at the World Cheese Awards 2024-25. The group is completed by Alcaprone, an Alcoy-based project run since 2020 by Joni Egea and Julia Colomina.
Guests from outside the comarca
As invited producers, Quesos de Hualdo, made with milk from a flock of two thousand La Mancha sheep, and the international cheese Granoro, aged for a minimum of 16 months by Rueda Cheesemonger, will participate. La Despensa de Andrés, a firm based in Ibi that advises more than 20,000 shops and restaurants, will be responsible for bringing this latter product to Dénia.
Programme of activities
The day will begin at 10:30 in Les Cuinetes with the presentation of the book Cuina de Territori, given by historian Javier Calvo. Marina Vega will then moderate a panel discussion in which all participating cheesemakers will take part, and the restaurant A la Fresca will serve a special lunch with cheese-based dishes. A tasting will bring together six different varieties throughout the day.
Market and times
The artisan cheese market will be set up in the main square in two slots, from 12:00 to 14:30 and from 16:00 to 19:00. Throughout the day, the establishments on Calle de los Sabores will also offer special cheese boards. The official poster for the event is the work of Valencian designer Héctor Merienda, of Estudio Merienda.
