Marc García Manzana, director general of Coasts, Ports and Airports, unveiled several improvement projects for Xàbia's port during an official visit to the port facilities on Tuesday. He was accompanied by the president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca; third vice-president and councillor for Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus; and the mayor of Xàbia, Rosa Cardona, along with other institutional representatives.
The most visible plan affects the port car park, which will increase from the current roughly 40 spaces—divided into about twenty arranged in a line and another twenty facing the fish market, according to the regional administration—to over 130 spaces, as García Manzana detailed. The upper level of the new car park area will be used as a pedestrian space with views of the bay.
Among the works already completed is a new pontoon that has allowed mooring to be reorganised between the Generalitat and the Club Náutico. The renewal of the wastewater drainage system next to the fish market has also been finished, with an investment of 275,000 euros from the Generalitat, and photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof of the same building, with regional spending of around 75,000 euros. The Generalitat puts the total of these last two sanitation and energy efficiency measures at over 350,000 euros, and García Manzana noted that solar energy has allowed fishers to cut their electricity bills in half.
According to García Manzana, collaboration between the Generalitat and the Club Náutico de Jávea will entail spending of over six million euros, together with an extension of the concession period of around 22 years. In 2025, the Generalitat opened proceedings to process that exceptional extension of the concession.
Before the summer season, other minor works had already been carried out in the port grounds, such as resurfacing the internal road, renewing signage and installing a calisthenics area.
During the presentation, García Manzana summed up the spirit of the project with an idea: "We want ports to be neighbourhoods of our cities and cities to be committed to their ports."
