Dénia transforms Pare Pere street into a trinquet for its first Pilota Week

An improvised trinquet in the city centre

The section of Pare Pere street between plaza del Tenor Cortis and calle Sant Josep served last Sunday as the venue for the traditional Pilota Day in Dénia. The event included a match between adults from Club Pilota Dénia and a semi-professional llargues contest.

From one day to a full week

The Sports Department and Club Pilota Dénia decided this year to extend the event into a Pilota Week, with new activities aimed at both the educational community and the general public, as La Marina Times already reported.

As part of this expansion, on Wednesday 14 October, calle Major hosted a pilota grossa event between 09:30 and 13:30 hours in which pupils from years 5 and 6 of primary schools in Dénia took part.

Women in Valencian pilota

The programme continued on Thursday 15 October at 19:30 hours at the Casa de la Cultura, with the event "Women in Valencian pilota: past, present and future", which featured Vicen Martínez, Ana Puertes, Fanny Ballester and María Enguix.

The Sports Councillor, Valen Alcalà, attended this meeting as one of the driving forces behind the initiative, along with representatives from different municipal political groups.
