The overflow of the Girona river caused by storm Adam left considerable flooding in Els Poblets on Monday morning, with houses affected by water and urban furniture damaged.

The mayor, José Luis Más, spoke to Dénia FM's 13:30 news bulletin to explain the situation in the municipality. "Residents who are strong, there will be hard days ahead for Els Poblets," said the mayor.

Más urged residents to document all the damage they had suffered so it could be passed on to the relevant authorities. The municipality, he said, remained in a state of confinement and alert, as this newspaper has already reported on the regional confinement declaration in the Marina Alta due to extreme risk of flooding. "Be aware and do not leave your homes unless necessary (...). It could continue to rain and we could have further incidents," the mayor warned.

Emergency services and the town council itself worked from early morning to inform and assist the population, after an urgent warning was activated for risk of the Girona river overflowing. During the rise in water level, several cars became trapped by the current.

Once the flow subsided, the streets were covered in mud and residents began to clean their homes. Images of the incident were captured by Xavi Pons and Tino Calvo.
