The Generalitat issued an orange alert in the Marina Alta comarca, in effect until at least midday on Friday 2 October at 12:00, due to the risk of torrential rain and flooding. The neighbouring Safor comarca and the rest of the Valencian Community's coastline were on red alert. The Marina Alta population also received the first Es-Alert in its history on their mobile phones regarding possible flooding.
Councils that suspended classes
Pedreguer suspended teaching activities at CEIP Trinquet, CEIP l'Alfàs, Escola Infantil and IES Pedreguer until 14:00 on Friday. Gata de Gorgos did the same at CEIP Santíssim Crist and IES Matemàtic Vicent Caselles Costa, also until 14:00.
Meanwhile, Xaló ordered the end of teaching activities at CEIP Serra de Bèrnia from 14:00 on Thursday, although it expects to resume classes normally on Friday.
Councils still to decide
Xàbia, Orba and Ondara had not yet decided on suspending Friday's classes whilst assessing how the emergency developed. Xàbia convened a Cecopal at 19:30 on Thursday.
Dénia, Benitatxell, Pego and Els Poblets, amongst other councils, were not for the moment going to suspend classes, although they were monitoring the weather situation. The Generalitat's emergency coordination centre issued guidance that prompted Marina Alta councils to suspend classes due to the flooding risk.
