Two young hikers rescued on Montgó after hours lost without water or food
Two teenagers aged 16 and 17 became lost on Sunday while hiking on Montgó, in Dénia. They were located by emergency services and brought safely to the fire station.
Emergency services received the alert at 16:44 on Sunday, according to Dénia.com. The two hikers, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, had been walking on Montgó for around three hours when the alarm was raised, according to COPE Dénia.
Without water or food
According to COPE Dénia, the young people ran out of water and food during the hike, which prompted them to call for help.
Rescue operation
To locate them, rescue helicopter Alpha 01 and the Special Rescue Group (GER) were mobilised, according to Dénia.com. Alicante firefighters also took part in the operation.
Both hikers were eventually located on the mountain and taken to Dénia fire station, according to COPE Dénia. Neither of them was injured nor required medical assistance.
The operation ended at around 19:00, according to COPE Dénia, whilst Dénia.com noted that the rescue effort lasted just over two hours.
