An exhibition to give a face to ostomy

The central corridor of the ground floor of Dénia University Hospital has hosted since midday on 1 October the exhibition 'Heroes', a collection of photographs accompanied by first-person testimonies from eight patients of the Dénia Health Department. The purpose of the exhibition is to raise visibility for those living with an ostomy and help normalise this reality.

The date of the opening is no coincidence: it falls during the week of World Ostomate Patient Day, a day commemorated on the first Saturday of October each year.

Behind the initiative

The hospital's stomal therapy nurses, Carmela Marí and Clara Fernández-Cañadas, launched the project. Both professionals are responsible for clinical monitoring of ostomate patients, as well as providing them with health education, emotional support and personalised advice tailored to each case.

Institutional presence at the event

The opening was attended by the manager of the Dénia Health Department, Juan Puig, and the medical director, Alexandre García. Also present were the Nursing Director, María José Tomás, and the Nursing Supervisor of Outpatient Services, Herminia Tur, along with the patients themselves featured in the exhibition.
