Grimalt, third on Senate list

Former Dénia mayor Vicent Grimalt will be part of the PSPV-PSOE candidacy for the Senate in the province of Alicante in the general elections on 29 November. He will hold third place, behind former Alcoleja mayor Quico Fenollar, who heads the list, and Benidorm's socialist spokesperson Cristina Escoda.

For Congress, Marina Alta will be represented by Pego mayor Enrique Moll, who features on the list headed by Alcoy mayor Toni Francés. Accompanying them in the top positions are Pilar Gay, Fulgencio Cerdán, Araceli Poblador and Antonio Rodes.

Approved unanimously

The PSPV-PSOE Provincial Committee approved both candidacies unanimously on Wednesday at a meeting held in l'Alfàs del Pi, attended by around 200 delegates. The PSPV National Executive Committee gave them the green light on Thursday, and the PSOE Federal Committee must ratify them this Saturday.

From retirement to campaigning

The candidacy marks a swift return to the political front line for Grimalt, mayor of Dénia between 2015 and 2026, who just months ago had admitted his desire to retire, as La Marina Plaza recalls. The realistic chances of him entering the upper chamber depend on the outcome: in the Senate, each province elects four senators and voters can vote for a maximum of three candidates.

Grimalt has already begun campaigning. In an opinion article published this Friday, he argues that the elections on 29 November are a decisive moment given the political and social context.

The comarca, in the lists

With Grimalt and Moll, Marina Alta socialism gains weight in the race for the Alicante constituency. In other parties, former Calp mayor César Sánchez is leading the PP Valencia campaign, and Pedreguer mayor Sergi Ferrús is seeking to head the Compromís Congress list in the coalition's primary elections.
