El Verger's PSPV closes ranks behind Paco Oliva for 2027 elections
The socialist party's local branch has unanimously endorsed its general secretary as leading candidate for the forthcoming municipal elections, at a recent membership meeting.
The Socialist Assembly of El Verger held a recent meeting at which its members unanimously decided to place Paco Oliva at the head of the PSPV-PSOE's future candidacy for the 2027 municipal elections. Oliva currently holds the position of general secretary of the local branch.
The meeting was also attended by Juan Chover, spokesman for the socialist municipal group on the council, in an event which the socialists described as the start of a renewal phase for the party in the municipality.
A new cycle after electoral decline
The PSPV faces this process following the 2023 results, when the party lost its leading position on the town hall and was left with just two councillors, far from the majority it had held in previous terms. Some reports link that decline to the wear and tear left by former mayor Ximo Coll, cited at the time in connection with the so-called VIP links case.
The branch argued that the project led by Oliva will combine the experience of current senior figures with the arrival of fresh faces, in search of a team capable of meeting the needs of the town. This is what the socialists conveyed: "El Verger needs a project that looks to the future with ambition, and we socialists are ready to build it together with Paco Oliva at the helm".
Unity as a banner
The party insisted that this stage is based on internal cohesion and the pooling of goodwill. "We are launching a new phase marked by unity and renewal that looks to the future with ambition", they stated. They added that "all the membership puts itself at the disposal of this project with the aim of forming the best possible team, integrating prepared people, with experience, enthusiasm and a vocation for public service to respond to the challenges of the municipality".
The local socialists described this moment as "a new phase marked by unity, renewal and the pooling of capacities around a shared objective: to build a solid, prepared alternative with a vocation for government to respond to the present and future challenges of the municipality", stressing that the proposal "has Paco Oliva at the helm, but is based on the work, enthusiasm and involvement of the entire branch".
