Compromís in Jesús Pobre has confirmed that Laura Grimalt Pérez will be its candidate for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections, replacing Josep Fornés Mut, who has held the position during the current term. Grimalt currently serves as a member of the Neighbourhood Board of the municipality for Compromís, with delegated responsibilities in Equality, Education, Personnel, Youth and Residents.
The party is proposing a renewal of the electoral list that incorporates new profiles with links to the town, ahead of the ballot.
A term with the mayoralty recovered after twenty years
In the 2023 municipal elections, the candidacy led by Fornés secured three representatives on the Neighbourhood Board compared to the two obtained by the PSPV-PSOE, which allowed Compromís to recover the mayoralty of Jesús Pobre after two decades without holding it. During his time leading the council, Fornés promoted the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Agriculture, improvements in municipal infrastructure, the covering of the sports centre and the purchase of land intended for future projects.
Meanwhile, Grimalt took on in 2026 the first vice-presidency of the Xarxa d'Igualtat of Marina Alta, depending on the MACMA.
Statements from both leaders
On the changeover, Fornés said: "Laura is the next step to consolidate Compromís in the mayoralty. We want to have the first female mayor of Jesús Pobre. In these four years as a councillor, Laura has demonstrated her great ability to manage the town hall doing incredible work".
For her part, Grimalt said: "I am facing this stage with great enthusiasm and keen to work. I look to the future with responsibility and with the desire to continue working for the town, bringing new people and new ideas to the project. It would be an honour for me to be the first female mayor of Jesús Pobre".
