A European meeting on cohesion and urban policies
Benissa will be present from 12 to 14 October 2026 at the European Week of Regions and Cities, one of the main continental forums dedicated to cities, regions and cohesion policies. The meeting is held in Brussels and brings together representatives of local administrations from across Europe.
The delegation and the project presentation
The municipality is represented by the first deputy mayor and councillor for European Funds, Adrián Cabrera; the councillor for Tourism and manager of Next Generation funds, Virginia Pérez; and the European projects officer, Maite Escrivà. On 13 October, the team is due to present the initiative "One Health 4 Cities: Benissa és Salut" at the Jacques Delors building, headquarters of the European Committee of the Regions.
This proposal is part of the URBACT One Health 4 Cities network, which promotes a holistic view of health in the urban environment, linked to wellbeing, the environment and urban planning. Benissa's participation in this network has allowed it to share knowledge and methodologies with other European localities.
Institutional agenda and future funding opportunities
During the stay, the delegation will pursue an institutional agenda focused on the future of cohesion policy and the next European financial framework, which will cover the period 2028-2034, as well as the available funding routes for sustainable urban development, innovation and business competitiveness. The aim of the trip is to strengthen links with institutional and political representatives related to regional development and community funding, in order to facilitate Benissa's participation in future European initiatives.
On this presence at the meeting, Adrián Cabrera stated that "being present in Brussels allows us to showcase the work that Benissa is developing, but also to learn first-hand where European policies are heading and to anticipate the opportunities that may arise for our municipality". The councillor added that "we want to continue positioning Benissa in strategic areas such as health, sustainability, tourism, innovation and the improvement of the urban environment, creating relationships that can become new projects and opportunities in the coming years".
The trip is financed through a grants programme from the Second Vice-Presidency and Ministry of the Presidency of the Valencian Community, aimed at supporting municipalities' participation in European projects such as URBACT.
