Cap de Sant Antoni and Montgó lead record summer visitor numbers in Valencian parks
Natural parks in the Valencian Community received 94,100 visitors during the summer, 19.68% more than the previous year, according to COPE Dénia. Calp's Peñón de Ifach and Montgó, between Dénia and Xàbia, were the most visited areas.
Natural parks in the Valencian Community recorded record visitor numbers during June, July and August, according to data released by COPE Dénia. A total of 94,100 people were counted, compared with 78,639 the previous summer, an increase of 19.68%.
August was the busiest month, with 38,116 visitors, followed by July with 31,800 and June with 24,201, according to the same source.
Peñón de Ifach in Calp was the most visited protected natural area in the Valencian Community, with 34,535 registered visitors. In second place was Montgó Natural Park, between Dénia and Xàbia, with 22,608 visitors.
The Santa Pola Salt Marshes Natural Park in Torrevieja attracted 5,391 visitors during the same period, according to COPE Dénia. The source clarifies that these figures only count users attended by environmental educators, so the actual number of visitors could be higher.
At Montgó, an activity called "El tesoro del Cabo Sant Antonio" (The treasure of Cap de Sant Antoni) stood out as one of the most successful programmes of the summer, according to the same source.
Other natural areas
Albufera Natural Park is commemorating its 40th anniversary this year with boat trips designed to promote traditional sailing, according to COPE Dénia. Other areas such as Penyagolosa and the Columbretes Islands are also part of the Valencian Community's natural parks network.
