A brand for environmental awareness

Calp's Environment, Beaches and Climate Change department took its 'Calp Blau' project to the III International Blue Flag Congress, organised by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) in Islantilla (Huelva) between 30 September and 2 October 2026. The councillor for the area, Pere Moll, was responsible for presenting this initiative, which is based on three pillars: environmental education, science and volunteering.

Moll cited among the municipality's actions the ecological moorings installed at Cantal Roig and Penyal cove, the smoke-free beaches programme, environmental marine events and litter collection work. 'Calp Blau' also has registered as a brand with the Spanish Patent and Trade Mark Office since early 2026, with the aim of serving as a tool for environmental promotion and education.

The councillor defended the municipality's presence at the meeting: "for Calp it is a very important opportunity to participate in this congress and make known the work being carried out in environmental education and awareness". Moll added that the proposal was put forward "as an example of how conservation, dissemination and citizen participation initiatives can be integrated into the same strategy".

Four decades of the distinctive on the Fossa

The mayor, Ana Sala, took part in a panel discussion on forty years of the Blue Flag as a driver of change in coastal municipalities, which also included representatives from Cullera, Alicante, El Campello and Gandia, towns whose beaches also maintain the distinctive uninterruptedly. In Calp's case, the Fossa beach is marking four consecutive decades with the Blue Flag.

Sala valued the usefulness of such meetings: "these gatherings allow us to review the ground we have covered, but also to learn about new challenges and continue improving".
