The Archaeology and Museums Department of Dénia Town Hall has organised five free guided tours running from Friday 9 to Monday 12 October, coinciding with Valencian Community Day and European Rock Art Day, celebrated on the first day of the bank holiday.
The programme includes a visit to the Museu Arqueològic and another to Castell de Dénia, through the Portal dels Socors, both on Saturday 10 October at 11.30. The latter showcases the recent rehabilitation of this entrance, where the original access from the Islamic period was discovered.
On Sunday 11 October, at 10.30, a visit to the Cova de la Catxupa will take place, which displays Levantine rock art from the Neolithic period with representations of archers, hunters, goats and deer. This cave is 6,000 years old and its paintings were discovered in 1990; Levantine rock art was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. That same Sunday, at 11.30, a visit to the new Centre d'Interpretació Dénia, Ciutat Vigia, is planned, which presents a chronological journey through five historical periods of the city.

On Monday 12 October, at 11.30, a tour along the imperial staircase of Castell de Dénia will be offered, which explains the evolution of the palace from its construction in the 14th century by the I Count of Dénia, its enlargement around 1600 by the V Marquis of Dénia, to the rehabilitation of the staircase itself in 2017.
Access to Castell de Dénia is free for those who participate in the scheduled activities. Registration for all visits is by telephone on 966420260, Monday to Sunday from 10 to 14.
