The MATERIA Research Group at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has brought its exhibition project «MATERIA [between] BOUNDARIES. Dialectics of contemporary creation» to Benissa, focused on exploring the frontiers that separate and unite art, science and technology. The exhibition has been open to the public since Friday 18 September, when it opened at 7:30 p.m., and can be visited until 31 October at the Espai d'Art Contemporani 'Salvador Soria', located in Les Cases del Batlle, at Carrer de la Puríssima number 36.

The curator of the project is Marga Cano Ferri, professor and researcher at the UMH. Four other professors and researchers from the same university have signed the works on display: Amparo Alepuz, Juan Francisco Martínez Gómez de Albacete—who signs as DeAlbacete—, Inma Mengual, Lourdes Santamaría and María José Zanón. In total, five artists and researchers form part of the project.

All of them share their teaching work at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Altea and their research activity at the Research Centre in the Arts (CíA) of the UMH.

Three dualities as the axis

The exhibition is structured around three pairs of opposing concepts: Material/Immaterial, Fluid/Discontinuous and Analogue/Digital. Through them, the project unfolds a journey that combines disciplines as different as sculpture, photography, site-specific installation, painting and new media.

The exhibition is also the result of extensive work and research developed by the MATERIA Group at the UMH over several years.
